When you buy a car in order to give it a longer life you regularly take it to have its service and get the oil changed and the mechanic will have a quick check to make sure everything is in order. It is exactly the same with the Air Conditioning unit. To keep it working properly and to give it a longer life you need to get it serviced at least once a year.
The most important thing to get checked are the filters as these should routinely be cleaned or replaced in order to keep the air conditioning working efficiently. If the filters are clogged with dust then the air flow will bypass them and go directly into the evaporator coil which in turn impairs the coil’s heat-absorbing capacity. Simply by replacing the filters the energy consumption of your air conditioning unit could be reduced by 5% to 15%.
As well as the filters it is important to get the evaporator and condenser coils cleaned as they also collect dirt over the months. In Spain the amount of dust that accumulates due to the climate is quite considerable and so it is essential to service the units at least once a year.
